Sir Andy Murray? Cameron backs Knighthood

According to The Guardian, David Cameron, Britain Prime Minister, has fuelled speculations that the 26-year-old, Wimbledon champion will be recommended for a knighthood. He said Murray's victory, which saw the Scottish tennis player become the first Briton to win the men's singles title in 77 years, "lifted the spirits of the whole country". The prime minister said honours were decided independently but "frankly, I can't think of anyone who deserves one more".

However, Murray, 26, modestly questioned whether he deserved such an accolade: "I think it's a nice thing to have or be offered. I think just because everyone's waited for such a long time for this, that's probably why it'll be suggested, but I don't know if it merits that. I don't know."

Mancini claims he did an extraordinary job at Man City

Roberto Mancini, the former Manchester City manager, says he is bewildered over his sacking at the end of last season claiming he did an ‘extraordinary job’ at the club.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City made it known Mancini had paid the price for reasons beyond football, his apparent lack of social skills causing numerous fall outs behind the scenes and ultimately leading to the breakdown of his relationship with the players and board. Mancini did not address that, but felt his on-field success should have earned him more time.

“Even now, almost two months later, I still do not understand why,” said Mancini.

“It is still painful, I admit. I think I deserved more respect for what I had done for Manchester City."

City, meanwhile, may have to wait if they are to sign striker Álvaro Negredo from Sevilla.

Napoli turned down €50m + Fernando Torres from Chelsea for Cavani

According to the Independent, an offer has been rejected by Napoli to sell the Uruguayan 26 year-old striker to Chelsea for €50m + Fernando Terros. Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis is determined to stand firm on his assertion that anybody can sign Edinson Cavani if they meet his €63m release clause. It seems even with the addition of Torres, it is still not worth losing the Uruguayan superstar.

Torres future at Chelsea seemed threatened by the return of Jose Mourinho, who knows he must make space in the Blues' wage bill. There's no chance of Torres returning to Liverpool after his exit in 2011. The Spaniard may have to return to his former club, Atletico Madrid, but may result in a dramatic cut in wages.

                   Fred 2', 47'
                        Neymar 44'

It was a well awaited match between the two kings of soccer. But as the saying goes: 'There's only one captain in a ship'. The Brazilians turned out to be the captain in this game. During the first two minutes, the 29 year old striker, Fred, scored the opening goal of the game, in what seemed to be a scrappy goal. A goal nonetheless. The Brazilians controlled the pace of the game for a while. However, the Spaniards got a match-changing moment to get an equaliser, but ended up losing the ball due to a terrific block by the Chelsea No. 4, David Luiz.   Neymar and Fred made the Spaniards pay for their mistakes, by making it 3 - 0 clean sheet.
